Mortified but HOPEFUL, A Real Life Perspective of Type 2 Diabetes

A guest post by my Mother, Lorie Griswold.

A few weeks ago, I caught the stomach flu. I don’t ever remember being so sick. I did not really feel like I was back to normal for a solid week. As I laid curled up in bed one day, my finger tips started to tingle. It scared me because, for several years now, I have been battling Type 2 diabetes. As I laid there, I said to my Lord, ” I need something to change, I am tired of feeling badly.” Literally 4 days later I received a card in the mail to purchase a book. The title was, The 30 Day Diabetes Cure. Some skepticism set in, but I was absolutely drawn to order this book. The book came this week and I spent the weekend reading. I tend to be a little slow when it comes to being convinced of issues like this. I can also be quite stubborn, at times, when listening to what is good or bad for me. My family would attest to this, I know.

I started as a pre-diabetic, where I only had to take medication. Now I am taking insulin, and when things worsen my doctor increases my insulin. I have asked her numerous times, Can I change this around? The answer I would always get was, ” Let’s keep working with your insulin in order to keep your blood sugar numbers down.” Ugggg! More sugar testing pricks 3 or 4 times a day, and more sticks with needles to inject more insulin. Not too mention the increased amount of money it is costing me and my insurance provider.

After reading this book, I am convicted that with God’s help, and the help of my family, I need to turn my life around. For the first time, I am Hopeful I can get off of insulin altogether.

I feel I MUST SHARE a few facts and studies in this book. I was Mortified.

The FDA and Food Companies, even our physicians and drug companies are so driven by dollars that they are not protecting us or have our best interest at heart in educating us with what their products are really doing to us. SUGAR and all forms of artificial sweeteners, especially high fructose corn syrup is our enemy, especially when it comes to diabetes. It is in thousands and thousands of foods, even Thomas English Muffins, Special K Cereals and Sara Lee Heart Healthy Whole Grain Bread. HFCS. Page 87

Purdue Univ discovered that consuming saccharin (sweet n low) actually contributes to weight gain. The FDA won’t permit saccharine use as a food additive because it is linked to bladder cancer. Yet they allow it in soda. Page 86

I am sure you are aware of the controversial research on Aspartame. Well watch out because

they are renaming it to AminoSweet, perhaps with the idea that uninformed consumers will think this carcinogenic chemical is a new health food. Coca Cola and federal government recently entered into a ludicrous partnership with the national heart, blood and lung institute to promote heart health in women by encouraging them to drink diet coke, decorating the cans with little hearts. Does this indicate the height of hypocrisy and widespread propaganda the public is being subjected to. Page 86-87

Americans consume on average 170 pounds of sugar per person per year, according to the USDA. That is roughly half pound every single day. Compare that with 100 years ago, when the average sugar consumption was just 4 pounds per person per year. Page 67

World Health Organization estimates 370 million people worldwide today suffer from diabetes..It now surpasses HIV AIDS in the number of people who die from its complications every year now totaling nearly four million. In every country on the planet, this death toll could easily double before the next decade unless people are informed on how to reverse it. Page 9

Consider this! 30 percent of all children born after 2002 are destined to develop type 2 diabetes and will die 20 years prematurely because of it. Theirs will be the first generation in history to have a shorter life span than their parents. Page 3.

Diabetes is now the fastest spreading disease in human history and is decimating the world economy at an alarming fast rate. More than $400 billion was spent last year in the fight, but still is losing the battle. Page 3

Because of all the readily processed, high sugar foods being consumed, doctors and drug companies are masking the problem instead of teaching patients how to reverse diabetes. Doctors are making millions, and the FDA is allowing it ALL to take place.

I for so long have been trying to please my doctor by trying to get my A1C to be 6.0 percent or lower. Then I read in this book that there was a study done in 2008 where patients were told this same thing.

After 4 years, these patients suffered significantly more heart attacks and had a higher rate of death compared with patients whose levels were between 7.0 and 7.9 percent. They were following the doctors order to a tee. But the results were so dismaying that the study had to be canceled early to protect the remaining patients. Page 42-43

UNBELIEVABLE!

I could go on and on about what I obtained from this book. I am honestly so grateful to my Lord, and to the author of this book, Dr. Stefan Ripich, for giving me a plan and hope of turning this dreadful disease around. I am also grateful to my daughter, Kylie, who is an inspiration in how she feeds her family. Pray for me that I can turn my eating around. Pray that I can stay away from the sugar enemy and all the prepared processed foods that are allowed to be made in our country. Please pray for all those I mentioned in this article as well, those who are out their running organizations, food companies, doctors offices and drug companies. These are people just like you and me. They, too, are being affected by this deadly disease and the harmful ingredients that are found in our foods which are then masked by drugs. What an epidemic!
